You always hear us touting the expression that “We believe every human being is designed to be extraordinary!”, but have you ever really thought about what that really entails?

Have you ever really thought about the extraordinary process known as conception and /pregnancy? Seriously, how does the body know what to do?

In nine short (relatively speaking) months, with little thought or conscious assistance a life form is created.  I think it is safe to say, that we ARE designed to be extraordinary!

But the reality of the situation is that expectant mothers are worried and overwhelmed with whether or not they are doing everything they can to ensure that this process goes as smoothly as possible.  You have everyone around you telling you what to do, what you shouldn’t do, what they did, what you should try and rarely do people tell you to listen to the most important person – YOU!  The pregnant body is consistently communicating what it needs all the time and whether you believe it or not, so is your developing baby.  The best thing you can do is to give yourself permission to trust the process and respond accordingly.

Have I sold you on this idea that every human being is designed to be extra-ordinary?  No…ok.

Well, have you ever thought about how easily babies adapt to their environment?  Do they know in what environment in which they will be born?

In the womb, the baby learns how to survive and thrive at birth.  Now, we can’t give this baby ALL the credit, they do consistently receive information from the mother throughout pregnancy to aid in their adaptation via specific messenger cells.  Interestingly enough, the baby shares information back with their mother through their own set of messengers by way of the placenta.  This communication is pertinent for the physical and emotional development of this unborn child – the baby ultimately knows EVERYTHING that the mother is going through and responds accordingly by way of this communication.

Imagine, when a mother experiences a thought, a feeling, or an emotion messenger molecules deliver signals to the body’s system and the body responds accordingly.  For instance, if a mother hears her house alarm go off in the middle of the night, she is likely to experience worry or fear.  Her body reacts by beginning to pump out hormones, such as adrenaline, to push blood to her limbs so she can react quickly to get herself and her family to safety.   Ultimately, the baby gets flooded with these same hormones and responds accordingly as well.  Crazy as it sounds; the baby experiences the same emotional roller coaster as their mother, and begins to develop their reality through how their mother feels about her world.  When she experiences love, so do they.  When she feels joy, they feel it to.  The body was designed in this way to ensure the baby an opportunity to experience a wealth of emotions and develop a healthy emotional life that meshes well with the emotional tone of their new family.  AMAZING!  The emotional tone, which is established in the womb aids in allowing this child to cope in the world.

Now, if all expectant mothers knew this, do you think they would spend more time doing the things they loved that reduced their stress instead of those things, those menial tasks, such as where your baby registry should be, that can often induce this stress response?

Neonatologist Dr. Frederick Wirth referred to this as being a “brain architect.” He knew that focusing on creating a healthy, happy baby in the womb led to happier, healthier children and families. Mothers should be excited to learn we have this power—the power to build our babies’ brains.

So, what I’m trying to say is that you were designed to be EXTRA-ORDINARY!

With that being said, every person is different.  Every pregnancy is different.  Every baby is different.  Albeit, brilliantly unique. Trust the conversations that your body is having with you and your baby.  Enjoy the extra-ordinary process that it is and make sure that you give your baby the best opportunity to adapt, evolve and grow.  These communications will be building blocks for your child’s future, so let’s ensure that your communication pathways to your unborn child is as clear as possible.

Why?  So you, your pregnancy and your child can continue to be extra-ordinary!

Now it's your turn.  Have you ever really thought about how incredible the birth process is?  Did you know that your actions and emotions could have such a direct affect on your baby and their development?  We'd love to hear from you.  Please leave your comments below.
