You have been reading about all the amazing benefits of gelatin but are wondering how to eat it? Or better yet, how in the world are you going to get your kids and husband on board!
Well I am here to help because I, like you had those exact same questions.
Why Gelatin?
- Supports skin, hair and nail growth.
- Can improve digestion because it naturally binds to water to help food move more easily through the digestive track.
- Great source of dietary collagen.
- Good for joints and can help joint recovery.
- Can help tighten loose skin. (especially the kind of loose skin that can happen after babies!)
You might be use to getting all of your gut healing goodness from foods such as bone broths, but I know there are times when you just don’t feel like drinking it. I recently have been feeling that way so I started to look for some alternatives.
I was introduced to this amazing product called Great Lakes Gelatin. You can find it here. There are so many cool things you can make with the Gelatin that I was shocked! Marshmellows, pumpkin pie, fudgcicles (all By Design of course!), you can add it to your smoothies, soups, and tea the list is endless!
But today I wanted to share with you a household favourite…. Strawberry Lego Gummies.
Now just a disclaimer, you can use whatever fruit you want and whatever molds you like! I just happened to have strawberries on hand and Lego molds in my cupboard.
Ingredients:
- 1 whole lemon, squeezed
- 1 cup Strawberries
- 4 Tbsp Great Lakes Unflavoured Gelatin
Process:
- Place lemon juice and strawberries into a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
- Place the pureed strawberries and lemon juice into a medium sized sauce pan, and heat over medium heat.
- Start sprinkling the gelatin over the pureed fruit while whisking or using an immersion blender. Continue doing this until all the gelatin is incorporated and the mixture is smooth. Adding the gelatin too quickly will make it more difficult to get the mixture to incorporate. An immersion blender is not necessary but greatly speeds up the process.
- As soon as the gelatin is mixed in and the mixture is smooth, remove from heat and pour into molds or a lined/greased baking dish and place in the refrigerator until hardened (usually takes 30 min).
Now that I’ve shared my latest gelatin obsession with you, have you ever made homemade “gummy bears”? Ready to give these a try? Share below!
