I'd like to share something with you that I've been seeing a lot online.
I want to talk you about the philosophy of pragmatism.
Pragmatism means doing whatever's good right in this moment without looking long term for how it's going to affect us down the road.
Let me give you some examples.
In politics, if you remember back to the Cold War in the 80s between the Russians and the Americans, one of the things that the Americans did was they gave a lot of unfriendly nations arms. They gave them guns, they gave them ammunition, they taught them how to fight, even though they knew that they weren't 'good'. "We're going to give these unfriendly nations guns to help us fight the Russians because it's good for right now." Unfortunately, that decision played a role September 11th.
In relationships we've all heard this before: "I'm going to date this guy or I'm going to date this gal because they're good right now. It's not really who I want, but they're fine for right now." And of course, we all know that never works out.
When it comes to health, "I'm going to eat this type of food because its what I feel like doing right now."
The key that links all of these examples together is this idea that you're doing something that will 'benefit' you in the current moment without thinking of how it will affect you or other in the long term.
That's not how successful people prosper.
People that make investments, they make investments with the long term in mind.
"I'm going to say no to this guy or this person right now. I really don't want to go on a date with them because they're not the person that I want to spend the rest of my life with, and my goal is to get married and have a family."
"I'm going to forego the ice cream. It might taste really good right now, but I really have a goal to get healthy. I want to get lean, strong, and fit, and eating that right now is not going to move me closer to my goal."
Of course, the requirement for you to start thinking this way is that you first need to have a long term goal. You can't just live from moment to moment. If you do you will become a product of the moment. You're going to go from extreme happinesses when you're doing the things that you want to do right now, to extreme depression because you don't know what you're going to be doing tomorrow.
Life By Design and its principles is true now, and it's going to be true in 50 years, and it was true 50 years ago, and
even 500 years ago, even since the dawn of humanity.
Your body has requirements and you have to fulfill them with the best strategies to live an extraordinary life.
Life By Design is a long term idea.
It's not a philosophy of pragmatism.
It's a philosophy based on reality. It asks the question: "What's going to bring me long term, sustainable success in all areas of my life?"
